So the bone chandelier was kind of lame... but THIS, my friends, is awesome.
If you've seen Harry Potter, there are lots of cool things. But how many things that are in the movie can you replicate with a bunch of toilet paper rolls and tea lights?
So start collecting your TP and paper towel rolls, because making the Hogwart's dining hall is super easy and makes for an amazing effect.
You're going to want to put a bottom on each of the candles. I used a hot glue gun to glue the rolls onto a piece of paper, then cut them to size when dry.
Next, some hot glue around the top to give the drippy wax effect, a coat of white paint, and you've got candles.
Now for the tricky part. How do you hang them? My way of making the candles "float" is by attaching them to a system of thread. I put pins between the crown molding and ceiling, and then crisscross regular sewing thread between the pins. Once they're secure it's just a matter of tying up the candles.
I actually use the thread rigging system to hang all kinds of things during other seasons (snow for winter, bats, whatever). For the lights, spring for the timed tea lights. They sell them with timers- once you turn them on they're on for 6 hours and off for 18. Perfect to run for a few weeks without having to turn on and off every single day!
The result? Very cool.
