But the Yuppie mom didn't go full-dirt. No, we were safely ensconced in the VIP tower which kept us free from the waves of dirt that the rest of the spectators inhaled for the full two hours.
And we were fed. There was a full refrigerator full of beer. There were trays filled with hot dogs and french fries. And there was the fried dough- or as Ellis calls it- "Dirt Dough."
The races are fun to watch, but so are the spectators. I'm not sure there is anywhere else you can go and see an infant sitting in the stands getting a face full of dirt.... and smoke from her mother's cigarette.
We were lucky to go with two dirt racing officianados who could answer all of my dumb questions. But more importantly, to call the race and entertain the crowd. "Wave your hands, wave your hotdog, wave your children! Asphalt's for gettin' there, dirt's for racin'!!!!"
