We were invited to a baby shower this weekend. For a goat.
Yes, a goat. What
do you do at a baby shower for a goat, you ask? You play games, of
course. Games like "How many goat berries (poop) is in a jar?" And you
give the mom-to-be a gift. We brought a beautiful bouquet of wheat,
although from what I understand a goat will pretty much eat anything.
There was dessert. Cupcakes with brown jelly beans on top of green frosting. Just like goat berries in the grass.
If you're guessing that this event
was held over the invisible line that runs through Ontario County
separating the 585 from the 315-ers, you'd be correct. Although loving
your animals to this degree is not limited to those who live in the
country. I once attended a birthday party for a dog. There were party
hats, and a cake with the dog's face in frosting, and we sang happy
birthday of course. All of that was just fine by me- until the dog
licked the cake that we were being served.
The kids, of course, loved every
minute of the baby shower. They got to see a farm up close and they
didn't mind the faux-goat berries on top of the cupcakes. Party favors
were pictures of the adult goats dressed up in costume or wearing funny
glasses. It was fun for everyone, and not something you get invited to
every day (or at all!)
As for the goat, she appreciated the wheat. She had twins, by the way. Both the mother and babies are doing well.
