Most of the houses in this neighborhood have optional bonus rooms located over their garages. Some people have them finished off when the house is built, but for the most part people finish off the bonus rooms after a year or so of living in the house.
For us, finishing the bonus room means going to the town and getting a permit. Which costs money. And then our taxes would increase. Which costs even more money. Not to mention the cost of supplies and heating an additional 300 square feet.
So we'll get to that project later. For now we're getting practice helping a neighbor finish their bonus room.

The project starts by measuring and figuring and knocking on the walls, trying to find out where the doorway is.

And then the serious cutting starts.

Windows are already installed, heating ducts are already run to the room. It's just a matter of, oh, drywall, flooring, insulation, electrical, painting and carpeting until it's a usable room!
