It's Christmas time and one of my favorite places to visit is New York City! Mom was too busy to go this year (she decided to see how Disney does Christmas- and soak up some sunshine too!) but my wonderful neighbors wanted to go. The four of us booked our plane tickets and found a room (which was no easy feat for a Saturday night in Manhattan in December!) and headed down for a quick weekend.

Julie, Robin, Amy and I took an early flight down on Saturday morning and hit the ground running. First stop: South Street Seaport for the TKTS booth and tickets for an evening show on Broadway.

The Seaport had a pretty tree and plenty of shops, but once we had our tickets we headed to Little Italy for lunch. After a delicious meal on Mulberry Street we walked around the corner to Canal Street- and China Town. Here cheap hats, jewelry, purses and trinkets were plentiful.

From there we walked to the more upscale shops of SoHo. Julie found the cupcake vendor she had been told about.

After a busy day on our feet we returned to our hotel to check in, change, and head back out again for our show. We walked through Rockefeller Center- or should I say pushed- the crowds were so thick!

Our tickets were for West Side Story at the Palace Theater on Broadway. After dinner we went to Rosie O'Grady's for dinner. It will forever be renamed "Rosie O'Grumpy's" for me. Our waiter was not pleased that I was having a glass of wine- but no dinner- and let his displeasure be known.
The next day we were back on our feet and in search of more Christmas presents. We took the subway but ended up doing a lot of walking. Along the way we did our sightseeing.

Shopping was a success!

We spent a lot of time walking down the streets and checking out the vendors. Everything imaginable was for sale. Hats, purses, artwork, tacky paperweights... but the best vendors sold food!

After another foray into SoHo we needed to head back to the hotel and to the airport. We walked through Times Square one last time. I got a picture with J's favorite, Elmo.

Two days is definitely not long enough to do all there is to do in NYC. But it is plenty of time to wear you out!
