Party at the Dirt Track

I fully appreciate the irony that this post follows the one in which I extol the cultural values of my hometown. But while Canandaigua host some great high-end cultural experiences like the Riesling Festival and CMAC, we are also just a smidge over the line from Wayne County and the 315-phone exchange.
Some nights you feel like going for tapas at the NY Wine and Culinary Center. And some nights you feel like going to the dirt track and getting covered in a thin coating of dust while watching the stock car races.
I'm not a big fan of getting dirty. But I AM a fan of fried dough. Which is pretty much what led us to our 2nd neighborhood party at the track this year. 30 of our friends and neighbors rented out the VIP tower at the track to watch the races last night. The tower is enclosed and air conditioned, but also has a large deck for the crazies that want to stand outside and fully experience the noise and dirt.

We also had access to pit row and went down to check out the cars up close and in person. Really close! The only issue we had this year was with the drink situation. Last year we had our own refrigerator full of beer. The men were happy. This year we had a 24-pack. For 32 people.

The boys were not happy. They grumbled loudly. Even the promise of pulled pork, baked beans, and fried dough did not appease them. Luckily their wives carry big purses, and more than one family had a case of beer in their car.
Crisis averted. And then we all ate fried dough.
