When the PC Police get it hillariously wrong

I received a packet of papers from J's school this morning.  Amid the weekly schedule, request for volunteers and activities to do at home was a letter from the Principal.

"On December 18th and 19th our school will be having a "Festivus."  Your child will be given the opportunity to spend his/her "buck" and go shopping for someone special."

And what is Festivus?  A polite way to celebrate the holidays without singling out any particular religion or culture?  Maybe that was the school's intention, but I think they could have used a better term.

Just for some background here, let's defer to Wikipedia. 

"Festivus is a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 as a way to commemorate the holiday season without participating in its pressures and commercialism.^[1] Festivus became part of worldwide^[2] popular culture after being featured on an episode of the American TV show Seinfeld in 1997^."

That's right.  IT WAS A FRICKIN' SEINFELD EPISODE!  It's Festivus for the Rest of us!

The celebration of Festivus includes the following:
-Airing of Grievances
-Feats of Strength
-A Festivus pole- made from aluminum
-Festivus miracles

And I'm pretty sure the "shopping" portion of the school's Festivus is in direct opposition of the festival's "non-commercial" aspect. 

Regardless, I want to thank the school district's PC police for the last 20 minutes of hilarious laughing they have given me.  Merry Christmas Happy Festivus.
